This is not a filter. It is not a preset. It is a deliberate, labor-intensive process in which a photographic portrait — captured in Craig's signature black-and-white style — is composited into a hand-crafted Impressionist painted environment. The result is a work that exists between two worlds: the honesty of a photograph and the permanence of a painting.
The subject remains photographic — real, present, unaltered. The world around them becomes art.
This is a limited offering. Each Painterly Portrait is a singular commission, produced in a small edition. It is priced accordingly.
We begin with a standard portrait session — dramatic light, black and white, unhurried. This is the foundation.
The background is built by hand using Impressionist painting techniques, then composited with the portrait. Color, brushstroke, and light are chosen to complement the subject.
The finished work is printed on HD metal at Golden Gallery in Bay City, MI — a ChromaLuxe panel that will not fade and will outlast the room it hangs in.
